93 - Boyfriend Jeans

Another long absence, ugh, sorry guys. I've been in such a rut recently. The weather is awful, I have lots of work for my spring classes (which I am trying my best to avoid but I still have deadlines) and I'm unemployed and just overall, pretty mopey. It's been raining here for a month pretty much non-stop, and the gloominess is making me so blllaahhhh. Hopefully it will brighten up and I will find a sense of purpose soon.

Sorry for the depressing post!

Anyway, just thought I would show this casual outfit. There was discussion in the FA world after Fatshion February about fat bloggers only really showcasing more dressy outfits, because there are uncomfortable feelings about fat women in casual clothes. I find this show interesting as it raised many questions about how we present our bodies to the world, and how they are received. Fat women are more readily accepted if they are presented well, but our job at fat activists is to change preconceived notions of fat bodies, and I think one of the ways in doing this is to showcase them in many different ways, including in everyday casual clothes. I blog mostly dressy outfits, but in my defence, it's because I'm usually overdressed. However, this is probably because of the way more body is deemed more acceptable when it is.

I just wore this outfit today to drive to the next town over to do a little shopping and to visit Fred's dad. It was raining and pretty gross and I really wanted to be comfortable, so this outfit came together out of that.

Cardigan and shoes - Walmart; Tops, Jeans - Evans; Belt - Dorothy Perkins

Sorry for the bad picture quality! It's hard to get a decent photograph in such gloomy weather!

The shoes and jeans are new. The jeans I got last week from Evans during the sale. I really love the look and feel of boyfriend jeans - they are a classic shape and add a touch of casual cool to any outfit. I sized up because they have no stretch, which was good because they just fit my giant calves, haha, but are much too large on the waist as a result. Apart from the slightly strange fit because of my weird proportions, I love these jeans. It's a change from the more dressy wide-leg or flare, or the trendy skinnies (both of which I still love, but it's nice to mix it up now and again).

Hopefully, I'll feel better and be able to update more regularly soon. Would you guys prefer to see outfits more often - say 3-4 times a week - including more casual outfits, or 1 to 2 times a week with the more dressy/fashionable outfits?

92 - Inspiration

I am constantly torn when it comes to my style. Right now, I am being pulled in three ways - toward floatly, floral 70s maxi dresses, with floppy hats, and sandals. Then toward a chic mix of 50s and 60s - think structured shift dresses in fun patterns - red, white, black, polka dots, hearts - with pumps or ballet flats, and cat eye glasses. These two themes I've brought up before in recent posts about pining for the summer. However, I am also pulled toward an aesthetic decidedly darker - tight black skinnies, sheer oversized blouses, platforms and super sleek blazers.

The XX's Romy Madley Croft is my main inspiration.

Photographs from Zimbio.

This kind of look reminds me of how my mum dressed in the 80s, just before I was born, which makes me love it even more.

What do you think - do you like this kind of look or prefer a softer palette? How can I incorporate pieces like this into my already existing closet of bright colours and feminine shapes?
