89 - Five Take... Brights

Hey :) Sorry for the long absence - school has been nuts! It's nearly over though, I finish up classes next Wednesday, and then have 5 exams, then I'm free! Well.... I have two spring classes, but they're distance so hopefully it won't be too bad!

Anyway, I've been awful at Five Take for the past few weeks and I feel terrible. Today, I actually had time to wear decent clothes and take pictures, so I did the challenge from last week which was to wear something bright. I wore this simple outfit, but I think the hot pink top really pops against the black and grey. I also have these cool animal print tights from Hips & Curve, which are awesome, they fit really well. You guys must be so sick of seeing this black pencil skirt.. I wear it really often it seems! It is such a staple though..

Cardigan - Walmart, Top - Joe Fresh, Skirt - ?, Tights - Hips & Curves, Shoes - Payless, Belt - Dorothy Perkins (came with a dress)

I hope you're all well. I'm hoping to be able to get some posts up from now on - hopefully things will be a little calmer :)

88 - Hearts

I'm trying to cultivate a style for myself, because I often feel like I totally lack one. I sometimes feel that have no overall aesthetic from one day to the next, so I've made it my mission to create one. I'm going for a classic 50s, maybe a little 60s, silhouette, with flirty a-line or pencil skirts, cigarette trousers, slim-fitting tops, lots of cardigans, cute prints - overall classic, but still a little quirky (through mixing different colours and prints). I'm sticking to clear colours, cold and bright, none of those dirty Autumn colours (which I hate anyway). I feel like none of this is really new to me, but I just want to be a little more streamlined, you know? I think it might be working because people keep telling me I have a Marilyn Monroe thing going - but I think this may or may not be because I'm getting my boobs out a lot.

This is what I wore last night to our annual Women's and Gender Studies Program/Society music event, endearingly entitled Femmapolooza. It was super awesome. I have no discernible musical talent, but those who did got up and sang and played instruments. I even had a song dedicated to me by two of my good friends, it was awesome! We also have a exhibit which we created called This is What a Feminist Looks Like, in which we took photographs of people that identify as feminist, asked them why, etc. to create awareness that feminism means different things to different people. I believe it is about acknowledging that sexism and the patriarchy hurt everyone, and that we need to be working to create equality for all people by eliminating all privilege and oppression. Anyway, it was a super fun night!

We also had a number of people write about various issues for our campus newspaper for International Women's Day. I wrote about DIY media and its role in feminism, and there were many other articles, which was so awesome.

OH, I guess I should show you my outfit instead of rambling on about my personal life, haha.

So how do you guys define your style? Do you consciously choose certain pieces to fit in with a style? How do you make trends or a certain style your own?

87 - Five Take... Stripes

Just a quick post so I can show you how I wore stripes for the latest Five Take challenge! Check out Beth, Claire, and Nicole to see how they wore them too.

I have this dress from Forever 21+ that is pretty tight around my stomach so I've never felt comfortable wearing it. (This is something I am working on but I am having a lot of trouble getting over belly fat protruding from clothes, you know? I feel like it's one of my last body hang-ups, maybe because my stomach is the last place where I got super fat? I'm not sure, but body acceptance is still a work in progress, as I'm sure you all know, and it takes time, and time I am giving it). Anyway, so I wanted to wear the dress and I am so enamoured with the polka dot City Chic top, that I wore that over. I wasn't sure if it would look okay, but I really think it did. Plus, now I am part of the mixing pattern trendy people club, right? Right.

Top - City Chic, Dress (worn as skirt) F21+, Leggings - New Look Inspire, Necklace - Aldo, Glasses - Clearly Contacts

Hope you are all well <3

86 - City Chic Review

I received my first order from City Chic this morning. I placed it on the 17th of February, and it shipped on the 18th - so it took 2 weeks to arrive. However, no customs charges! So I'm not grumbling too much. I used the code BM30FS for 30%, so I received everything for $93.80, instead of $134 - which is such a great deal for 2 dresses and 3 tops. Shipping was free.

I thought a short review of what I received would be good, as their US website was created not too long ago, so I'm sure only a few of you have ordered from them before.

XL, $32
Fits really well, gorgeous shape, amazing print. I adore this top!

L, $20
Amazing price, fits well although the waist is cut a little high, I can see wearing this a lot in the summer.

XL, $30
I couldn't zip up this dress without help! It is a little loose on the bust because of this, haha. Apart from that I think the dress is really pretty. It's made a gorgeous fabric that has a nice drape, and is fully lined. It is not stretchy however, so if you have big boobs then I recommend sizing up.

L, $32
Same cut as the polka dot top, again, I love it! I wish I could have gotten an XL but they were sold out, so it clings a little to my stomach, but it's totally fine!

XL, $20
Sending this one back for sure. It is just does not suit me. It's really tight across the stomach (despite my waist being 41" and the XL supposed to fit 44.9"). However, it is really well made - it is completely lined!

I would recommend City Chic for sure. The clothes are well made and well priced. They have a new collection out called Chic, Rattle, and Roll, which has some lovely pieces in it. I heard their jeans are amazing too, and I'm obsessed with these. Oh! They have $20 off denim right now, consider these ordered! :)

Oh! What do you think of the new glasses? I got them from Clearly Contacts. I'm not quite sure about them yet. I've ordered a second pair that are very similar to decide between the two. I do have to say though I am super impressed with their service. These glasses came in about 4 days after I placed my order, with only one day to ship! They also have a return/refund policy!

Anyway, stay tuned for the next Five Take challenge tomorrow when we are showcasing outfits featuring stripes!
