55 - Tumblr

I made a tumblr account the other day. I imagine it's going to be quite jumbled, with cute things like kittens but it will probably be a lot more political... as I don't really talk about feminism and fat acceptance/fat activism on here, it's mostly just for outfits, I will do over there. So, if you want to take a look over there you may find something that peaks your interest :) http://thestate-iamin.tumblr.com/

Also, if you have a tumblr page too let me know!

54 - Pink ruffles

Thanks for all the comments on my last post. You're all so lovely and really mean a lot to me.

I wore this outfit earlier this week, but couldn't post pictures for some reason, and I am finally getting round to redoing it now.

It's nothing really special. I got this cute ruffle cardigan from the Dorothy Perkins sale a couple of weeks ago. The top is from Asos Curve. I bought the coral version back in July, and I loved it, so recently decided to buy the white one. Such an easy to wear top! My jeggings are from Old Navy and the blue version of my beloved black ones. My shoes I picked up from Evans, and I love the old man boater look!

53 - (Even) shorter hair

About two months ago, I chopped most of my hair off, after having a chin length bob, for the most part, for the last 6 or so years and yesterday, I cut it even shorter. I've always been one to try new things with my hair, not extreme colours really, but different styles. Hairdressers seem to love this, and from what I can gather, it is because women do not usually like to experiment with their hair, preferring to stay with tried-and-true cuts.

I think a lot of this boils down to confidence. Women who are confident with themselves are more likely to allow themselves to look like how they want themselves to look, instead of being completely susceptible to culture's notions about how we're supposed to look. A lot of women in the fatshion movement are like this. Instead of giving in to societal pressures to look a certain way, we embrace our bodies just as they are, and we are confident while we do so.

This is why I am talking about hair. For me, my hair has always been an extension of my personal style and how I portray myself to the world at large. Becoming more involved in feminism, fat acceptance and the fatshion movement has given me so much more confidence than I had a year ago. I show this through many different avenues including (but not limited to!) school work, social interactions and relationships, and of course, my clothes, and my hair. Chopping off my hair, although I never used it as a protective barrier per se (which I think a lot of women definitely do), gave me confidence, and shows others that I have confidence in myself in order to wear really short hair. I mean, how can you not be confident with a rocking pixie cut?

Society reinforces the idea that women have long hair because that is what is feminine and what masculine males are attracted to. Honestly? Fuck that noise. Who wants to live in such a boring, hetero- and gender normative world like that? There is so much more to life that fitting in with cultural norms, most of which, if we think and examine them, don't really appeal to us right? I mean, they must not in some way, big or small, if you're involved in feminism, fat acceptance or the fatshion movement, right? I guess, in a small way, my hair says something like that, at least to me, and maybe other people. Or maybe it doesn't and I'm analyzing haircuts far too deeply, but hey, at least my hair looks good right?

52

These pictures are so terrible because they were totally rushed. I'm not even sure why I'm posting them then, haha. I just love this outfit - the cardigan is gorgeous and the layering keeps me so warm on cool autumn days like today!

And the details..

Cardigan and white top - Asos Curve; Jeans - Old Navy; Flats - Payless; Belt, necklace - Ardenes; Owl ring and satchel - F21; Hat and oval ring - H&M; Scarf - Bizou; Red lipstick - Tigi Bed Head; Red nail varnish - Avon

I just wore this to school for one class. I was writing a Medieval Art and Architecture midterm, which seemed to go well, but who knows. I always blank on the important things like the artist and the date, but seem to remember little unimportant historical details. So strange!

I hope you are all well :) xo

51 - OOTD BD Polkadot Dress!

I finally wore the Beth Ditto polkadot dress today! I say finally because although I only got it on Friday, it feels like it was sitting in my closet for a lifetime!  I decided to try and dress it down since I was just going to work and a couple of classes, so I wore it with black tights, a black slouchy cardigan and red shoes. I also had a red hair clip and red nails today! So co-ordinated!

Dress - Beth Ditto at Evans; Cardigan - Joe Fresh; Scarf - Bizou; Ring - H&M; Tights - We Love Colors; Shoes - George at Asda

I love this dress so much! It is structured and fits so amazingly (to The Merry Traveller - I realised today that the back of the waistband has a little elastic so you should definitely be fine with the 22!). It makes me feel cute, sexy and put-together. The only annoying thing is that it is a little short (I know it looks knee length here, but it's about 3-4 inches above my knees) and it was windy today, so walking around campus I had to hold it down so I didn't flash everyone! I may wear it with leggings next time, so if it does ride up then at least no one would see my underwear!

Also, my hair looks like poo, doesn't it? I'm getting a cut and colour on Friday, and I am so excited! I'm going back to black ♥

Anyway, that's about it for now, thanks for everyone's lovely comments on my previous post, I really appreciate each and everyone :)

50 - Beth Ditto Dresses

Wow, so my Beth Ditto stuff from Evans FINALLY arrived. Ugghh. Canada Post seriously sucks. I got charged a ton of duty too. I swear they must randomly pick parcels to charge duty, customs and tax on. But whatever! They are finally here!

(Side note - we took these photos at midnight in our bedroom, so the colours are super funky, I'm sorry. I'm going to wear them in OOTDs very soon, and I promise, I'll find a better location to show the clothes for how they actually look in person...)

Polkadot Dress - Amazing! It fits me so perfectly! (I ordered a 24 if you're interested because I wanted to make sure it fit ma boobies, and this was before I heard it fit big in the bust). There is a little extra room but is magnificent. It's comfortable, cute and funky. Love love love. Also, not as short as I had feared (although the slip JUST covers my bum, haha). I'm 5'8.5" so on the taller side, and dresses are using tunic length, but this is not bad at all!

Floral dress - I sized up in this (26/28) because I really despise stomach clinging dresses on me, it makes me so uncomfortable because I constantly pull it away and.. it's not good. Then I was worried this would be too big, but it's not! I definitely could have got my usual 22/24 but this is totally fine, no clingy, it skirts nicely over my stomach. It's a very lovely dress, if a little thin.

Denim skirt - Uuhhh, did anyone else have problems with this? I got a 24 thinking that it would fit me generously, and it's super snug. I don't have a big stomach really but it really emphasizes it! I'm not sure whether to size up.. or just let it go. Any suggestions? I do really like this skirt though - the nice heavy denim, the floral detailing, and the fact that it is lower in the back - amazing! I'm fed up buying skirts and dresses that do not accommodate my massive behind!

Floral leggings - I think I was being brave when I ordered these. Unfortunately, I don't think I have the guts to wear them, I'm just not feeling them. So back they go!

I'm just relieved they finally came. I can't wait to style them properly and show you guys :)

49 - Teal and Leopard

So you all know my love for leopard. Today I wore my recently thrifted Banana Republic leopard cardigan. I wanted a bold, funky look, so I paired it with this gorgeous Dorothy Perkins top I recently picked up in their sale. I loooove this top, it's comfy, easy to wear, and looks pretty good! Sorry the colours are weird. Fred is at work so I had to do them myself, and the sun was setting, so it turned out all strange..

I tried to take pictures of my accessories but that didn't work out, but basically dangling gold earrings that look like feathers and a cute little elephant necklace. I thought they added a little whimsy.

In other news, I had a terrible experience with Canada Post. I don't want to go into it, haha, because it makes me so mad! The good news is that I will be able to get my Beth Ditto and Asos stuff tomorrow... after 1... after I pay $100 in duty... FML.

Anyway, I hope you are all well :) xo

48 Mixing Prints

Hello again. I know I just posted yesterday but I wanted to again today to show you my finds from the weekend. I've seen a good number of posts quite recently on mixing prints, and I wanted to share my take on it! I wore this on Friday, to go thrifting and mall shopping with my gorgeous sister. We had a lot of fun and found a lot of good stuff, which I will show you below too!

Cardigan - Winners; Top (actually a skirt!) and earrings - H&M; Jeggings - Old Navy; Boots - Walmart; Bag - Thrifted; Ring - DIYed (orignally Ardenes)

My sister, Freya,  modelling some of her purchases:

Hat and scarf - H&M; Dress - Old Navy; Leggings - Joe Fresh; Boots - Ardenes

So here are the things I picked up shopping!

H&M

$30
I wanted to try a maxi dress all summer but never found one I liked. I walked into H&M and straight to this dress. It's not quite as long as I would have liked, it sits sort of mid calf, because I'm quite tall. I tried it on at home and I think it will work with leggings, boots, and a slouchy cardigan for fall.

Love these rings! They were only $5 and $7 I think. Gorgeous!

Old Navy

Old Navy was having quite a large sale because of it's 16th anniversary, so I picked up these two sweater dressed for only $16 each. The colours didn't translate very well, but one is a dark grey, the other a muted purple. Freya is wearing the purple one above.

I also picked up another pair of my beloved jeggings from Old Navy, I got the blue ones for a little change, they were also only $16.

Salvation Army

Freya made me buy this. I'm not too sure about it, although it was only $6. The colours are so not me, but the style of the dress is actually quite nice.

Frenchy's

This find was so awesome because it's the exact same polkadot skirt I am wearing in my outfit picture above, but the one I'm wearing is my sister's. I found this H&M baby in Frenchy's for $2.50!

Value Village

Banana Republic leopard cardigan, $5.

The colours didn't translate well on this photograph either, but the skirt is navy blue with white and turquoise polkadots. It's awesome and was only $4. I will show it in an OOTD because I'm not sure whether to keep it at its original length (mid calf) or chop it a little short.

Evans

I am kind of pissed off with Evans at the mo. For two reasons mostly, I sent back the giraffe sweater dress a LONG time ago, and as far as I know it hasn't been received. I wanted an exchange, but now the dress is missing from the website, so I probably won't be able to get it. I am so sad, I loved this dress so much but the sizing was weird, and the dress was clingy, so I needed a bigger size. I contacted customer service and they were no help AT ALL! Also, my Beth Ditto stuff still hasn't arrived, but I have a feeling I should get them this week. I just sent them another e-mail. I'm really hoping they try to fix these issues, or I probably won't order from them again.

Anyway, despite this, this is what I most recently ordered (I'm such a hypocrite, I know, but this was on Saturday, I think, when I was optimistic about receiving a lovely and helpful response from their customer service).

47 Fancy Dress Challenge No.3

I was unable to blog for the last few days and I got so antsy! I'm home now, after visiting my Mum and sister and brothers for the weekend, and I can finally do an OOTD!

I wore this on Thursday to work and school, and to travel up to Halifax. It's my third week of the Fancy Dress Challenge. I wore the Asos Curve lace dress. I love this dress. I wore it dressed up to a wedding, but haven't worn it since, mostly because I find it's easier to dress down when the weather is a little colder.

Cardigan - Joe Fresh; Scarf - Bijou?; Dress and leggings - Asos Curve; Boots - Walmart; Belt and ring - Ardene; Earrings: H&M

This is such a comfortable outfit and kept me warm in the cool, but perfect, autumn day.

In other news, tomorrow is Canadian Thanksgiving. Since Fred and my Mum are working, and I have a ton of school work to do, we had dinner today. It was so delicious! We had turkey, stuffing, carrots and turnip, roast potatoes, sweet potatoes and parsnip, peas and lots of gravy. Then for dessert homemade chocolate mousse and cheesecake. Yum yum yum. And to all other Canadians out there - Happy Thanksgiving! I love long weekends, especially ones that involve delicious family meals.

I also shopped way too much over the weekend. Question - are you guys actually interested in reading "haul? posts? I am sometimes.. but then other times, not at all. What do you think?

46 Leopard Lust

I just want to douse myself in leopard print all the time. Any colour, any size, any thing, as long as it's leopard! Must. Have. Everything. Leopard. There's just something that simply says, "I don't give a fuck" when you wear leopard print. Not like, in a rude way, but in a nonchalant elegant way (when done properly). At least, that's how I see it. My mum bought be a leopard print coat for my birthday a few weeks back. It is seriously amazing. It is blue toned but the classic shape and belt update it for a classy look. I've only worn it a few times because it's not really that cold yet, but I can't wait to show you it soon! I have a few leopard pieces in my wardrobe already, and I find they add spunk to an otherwise simple outfit. If I was at home I could show you but alas I am not. Anyway, here are some amazing leopard pieces I am currently coveting...

You can click to view the polyvore collection larger and see where I picked the pieces from!

45

I debated whether to post this outfit seeing as it's so similar to this one I posted a couple weeks ago, but hey, I re-wear clothes everyday so I may as well show it on here! Also, I am wearing a t-shirt. I never wear t-shirts. Seriously, I hate them. The high neck and square shape and awkward sleeve length. Blech. But this is kind of an updated one. It's just from Zellers, from the Alfred Sung line for fatties, which actually has some good pieces (Canadian gals check it out, esp when they have their end of season sales!)

Blazer: Asos Curve
Scarf: Black Market (Halifax)
Top: Alfred Sung Pure+
Jeggings: Old Navy
Ankle boots: Walmart (boo, hiss, I know, I know)
Earrings: Payless? I think..

This is pretty much by autumn uniform.

How do you guys feel about mint nail polish by the way? I know it was so spring/summer but I'm not sure. Can you see it in the second picture? I get tons of compliments on it, but I am still not convinced.

In other news, still nothing from Evans (and Asos either actually..) and their customer service was so not helpful. I am feeling left out of all the Beth Ditto clothing excitement.

All I did today was go to one class on human sexuality where we talked about female ejaculation and the g-spot. Isn't university awesome?

44 - It's a Cruel, Cruel World..

We went to go out to the only dance bar in town. I got all dressed up. Then we got there and the line was so giant. No hope of getting in before it closed. Seriously. It's Homecoming weekend at school so everyone is nuts. Drunk people EVERYWHERE at all hours of the day. So we came home. And now I'm updating my blog. Haha, I'm so fucking cool. We did have fun predrinking and whatever, but I wanted to go dancinggg. Oh well, here's my outfit.

Isn't the back cool? I could probably wear it backwards too!

Dress: Asos Curve (LOVE this dress, it's big on the top and a cute pencil skirt on the bottom, lovely)
Tights: We Love Colors
Belt: Ardenes
Shoes: Payless
Earrings: H&M

Make-up wise I wore blue (with sparkles!) liquid liner and a berry lip stain.

Oh well, it was fun getting dressed up, and I am cheating and saying this counts as my Fancy Dress Challenge #2!

43 - Make-Up!

Hey! So I'm sure you've noticed I'm not a big make-up wearer. I usually just slap on some mascara and blush and go on my merry way. But I do love make-up actually! I've been wearing it forever, and although the radical feminist in me questions that sometimes, I guess I just view it as something fun that can be played with. I was home alone tonight (which is sad on a Friday night, I know, but whatever!) so I decided to play a little! I did three different looks, but I'll stagger them so you don't get bored!

I call this look "Quirky Classic," I guess it's a little rockabilly too. I love this look and one I rock usually when I dress up. It's very simple. I used: foundation, peachy blush, hot pink lippy, and black liquid liner (I forgot mascara but would probably add it). I paired it with a F21 hairband and H&M GIANT pearl earrings. I can totally see this look working with the Beth Ditto polkadot dress, paired with either red or hot pink accessories.

What do you think? Would you like to see more?
