17 - Asos Curve #1

Hello :)

I received my two orders from Asos, and overall I'm pleased with most of the stuff, despite being hit with about $70 in duty/tax/customs charges :( I will try and post all the new pieces in outfits over the next week or so. So here's number no. 1. It's the Dobby cutout blouse (sorry I can't link because the site is down right now!). I think it was about £9.

I ordered it in a 24, as that is the size that I've had the most luck with from Asos Curve previously.  Plus. that's about a 20US, although I do usually wear about an 18 it can vary. However, this is really quite huge. I know it's supposed to fit loosely, and that's okay. I would probably size down in this if I knew it was going to be this over-sized. However, it is comfortable and the belt pulls it in nicely, I think.

Shirt - Asos Curve
Belt - Evans
Jeans - Reitman's
Shoes - George at Asda
Bag - Joe Fresh via SuperStore
Earrings - TopShop

That's about it I suppose. The fabric is a nice light cotton, and isn't too see-through, I don't have to wear anything underneath so it's nice in hot weather!

The sizing issue is something I will definitely touch on again, as the Asos Curve sizes seem to be all over the place!

My week has been crazy. I'm so tired. Work is driving me insane, I like my jobs, but I'm fed up working ALL the time. I am having virtually no summer at all. Oh gosh. I'm not sure what to do. I need money for school but I feel like I'm losing my sanity!

Anyway, depressing stuff aside! I will see you Sunday with another wedding outfit!

16 - New Name

Hello lovelies :) Just a head-ups I changed the name of my blog. Elizabeth O. was always temporary, so I finally got rid of it. It was too boring and too simple, it was just my name after all. Anyway, it's now The State I Am In, after one of my favourite Belle and Sebastian songs. And also because I feel like it corresponds to the theme of this blog fa(t)sion, and my state of being is.. fat. Or something like that anyway!

15 - Oh Nova Scotia...

... I have such a complicated relationship with you. I hate you at times, but then you wow me with your simple beauty.

I must admit I hesitated before posting this picture of me, seeing as I look way less than perfect. But I throw caution to the wind. That's what part of this blog is for me, getting used to how I look and embracing it, flaws and all.

I got off work at 5 today, which was lovely. I had such a long week at work, working 12 hours a day for two days. In fact, it's not over, as it's my turn to work Saturday at the museum. But oh well. After work today, the boy and I took a drive out of our little village, all along the beautiful coast of NS to this little lighthouse, perfectly situated on a cape looking out into the ocean. it was an impromptu trip, but so fun :) If I tell you you can see PEI to one side and Cape Breton to the other, you can probably locate where I am! Haha. Anyway, it was so lovely. We were the only ones there for a while and we relaxed and listened to the sea, the wind and the chiming buoy, while cuddling. Sappy, yes, but adorable.

I'm not wearing anything fancy by any means. I wanted to be comfy this morning so threw on New Look dark denim bootcut jeans, a white top and lilac cardi from Joe Fresh (the top is supposed to be a PJ top apparently!) and you can't see them, but super comfy silver pointed-toe flats from Evans.

That's about it for now. Maybe I'll do something fabulously exciting this weekend and have a lovely outfit to show you :) I can dream!

Oh, and hello to the new followers and thank you all for the lovely comments on my last post. It means so much :)

14 - Wedding Outfit

The boyf and I went to his cousin's wedding today. I left early because I'm a party pooper and wasn't really feeling up to partying all night. I'm at home now, about to snuggle in bed with a movie and popcorn. However, I did have fun getting dressed up and the ceremony was adorable - it was outside and in a really lovely location. Unfortunately, it was boiling! It was so uncomfortable. But I managed to stay looking fabulous ;)

It seems like every blogger out there has this Asos Curve dress. I love to see how everyone styles it! I love that it is so easy to dress-up.

Dress: Asos Curve
Necklace: TopShop
Belt: ?
Bag: Aldo
Tights: We Love Colors
Shoes: Marks and Spencer

I love We Love Colors tights. They are the only ones that fit me comfortably, as I'm not only fat but tall too!

In other news, I put in an order from Asos. I couldn't resist the sale and after the linen navy trousers sold out in my size, I thought I better get a move on. I ordered the beige blazer, the festival pack-a-mac, the navy chiffon blouse, the cream bow blouse and a long tank top. All for less than $100, including shipping! Fingers crossed I don't have to pay customs!

Well, that's about it for now :)

13 - Misc.

Hey :)

Here's my outfit for today. I was channeling the sailor look with navy, red and gold. I'm really sorry the quality is so crappy. My camera clearly didn't like the lighting! I have to admit I blended my lipstick with lipgloss for work, but I love the boldness of the red lippy which I just picked up from my hairdressers. It's Bed Head, shade Luxury.

Top: George at Wal-mart
Cardigan - Joe Fresh
Jeans - Reitmans
Shoes - George at Asda
Flower (in hair) - H&M
Bag - Joe Fresh

I'm coveting a lot of stuff from Asos Curve right now but put myself on a spending ban for July. It's so hard to resist! Many items keep coming down in price but I'm scared they will sell out before August. What do you guys think? Here are some of the things I really would like...

$38.47 - I love that this blazer is linen. I also love the colour but I'm not sure how the colour would look with my skin tone. Hmmm. It's between this blazer and the navy one. What do you guys think?

$19.23 - I love linen! These navy linen trousers I have been coveting for aaages. They're such a good price too and would make a great alternative to jeans/black pants.

$9.62 - What can I say? I have the fox tee that every blogger seems to have and I would love the peacock one too. Super comfy and great to throw on with jeans and a long cardi.

$22.44 - I love this lace shrug. Imagine how great this would look with cocktail dresses?

$38.47 - Again, everyone has been wearing this on the blog-o-sphere, and I really love it. I love navy, clearly, and the long casual shape of this is to die for! But I need to decide between the two blazers, I think, or do I? Haha..

$12.82 - This would look fabulous with a high waisted black skirt.

$16.03 - I will be working at our campus library come September. Perfect librarian blouse? I think so.

$16.03 - This shirt looks weird, yes. But! Imagine it with the gold belt above. Thoughts?

$19.23 - Librarian wear again. Love the dark blue colour and flute-y sleeves,

$25.64 - Not sure about this dress in reality, but in theory, I love it.

Oh, I finally got my hair done professionally. The red is even all over and I got a lot cut off and thinned out. I think it's lovely, and I'm no longer embarrassed by my hair. It was fading so quickly! I also picked up some good product and hopefully it all helps. I'm liking the red a lot more now that it actually looks decent.

I'm planning on what to wear for a wedding on Saturday. Still not sure whether to go with the cream lace dress or black bow dress, both from Asos Curve.

Well, that's all for now. Let me know what I should do about the Asos pieces, pleeease. I need outside opinions! :) xoxo

12 - New Glasses

Hi everyone!

I feel awful about not having posted a real entry in a long time. It seems like forever! I've been so busy with work, it's terrible! My brother's were visiting, then my Mum and my eldest little brother visited this weekend too. We were supposed to attend the Highland Games but it was waaaayy too hot. Another reason for no posts - we are experiencing a heat wave across Eastern Canada and frankly, I am too hot to dress super cute and pose for pictures! It does seem to be cooling down though and I have a couple cute outfits planned so hopefully I can update a few times this week!

Anyway, I received my new glasses from Zenni Optical last week. They came a lot quicker than we were expecting! I love my two pairs! The brown tortoise-shell are a little larger than the black with peacock feathers on the sides, but they both fit well. I love that one pair is more warm and suits clothing of the same tones and vice versa. They are the correct prescription and were so reasonably priced. I would (and do) recommend them to all, and would not hesitate to order from them again! On the down side, I did order a pair of sunglasses too, and they are super small. I used the measurements and thought they would be okay.. but they are too small for my liking. I'll still use them.. in the car.. where nobody can see me. Haha. It was the same deal with my partner... he found his sunglasses ordered from Zenni a little small too. Oh well!

I did take a picture of the side view of the black with peacock feather detailing on the arms but it didn't turn out well. You can however, see the detail on the picture from the site, here.

That's all for now! I'll post again soon, I promise :) xoxo

09 - God Help the Girl She Needs All the Help She Can Get

Hello!

So I mentioned in my last post that I had received an order from Forever 21 but was a little disappointed. This is mainly due to the clothes from Faith 21. I ordered two tops in 3X and a pair of leggings in a 2X. I mentioned in this post  how absurd the sizing is, and I am still angered by this, maybe even more so after experiencing them first-hand. I usually wear an 18/XL/1X on top and a 20/1-2X on bottom. I ordered the shirts in 3X and hoped I would fit into them, as the measurements seemed about equal. However, this shirt is woven and didn't really fit. Behold....

This would be adorable on someone with a smaller belly and shorter torso. The colour is aubergine and really lovely. I do like it but I would be too conscious of it sticking to my stomach. Bye bye shirt.

The second top I am keeping because I think it is adorable. And up until July 1 I always had a black bob. It clings a little to my stomach too but whatever, I can't wait to wear it with a cute black skirt. Also, the necklace is real (fake) pearls :)

I have to return the leggings because they seriously won't go over my bum. Ridiculous!

The accessories I ordered are all great though!

So what do you think of the new hair colour? It took 5 bleachings to get the black out and then the red dye on top. It is a little darker on bottom but blends pretty well! It was an experience that I will not be in a hurry to repeat. But I do love having black hair so we'll see how long it lasts!

Oh, I also got purple and green mascara. I haven't worn the purple yet but here's the green, it is quite lovely!

Hah, I look a little googly-eyed there!

In an other note, I saw Toy Story 3 tonight with the boy and my little brothers - so much fun! That's about it but I will leave you with my favourite song right now - God Help the Girl by the band of the same name. I am so loving them right now. Belle and Sebastian are my favourite band and this is Stuart Murdoch's side project right now. They are lovely. The female singers are stunning too!
